REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE WORKING GROUP

Spring Semester 2015

Reply by January 30th!

Are you interested in the theory and practice of reproductive justice, or the right to have children, the right not to have children, and the right to birth and parent children with safety and dignity?

Join this facilitated working group, which will explore questions that have plagued efforts to secure reproductive rights and eliminate reproductive oppression, particularly for vulnerable and marginalized populations considering:

  • How do statuses such as race, class, gender, and ability influence reproductive possibilities?
  • How has reproductive justice organizing intersected with other social movements?
  • How can we incorporate a reproductive justice analysis into our scholarship and practice?

The working group’s primary goal is to co-create an environment where participants can deepen their understanding of reproductive justice and develop practical ideas for integrating it into their research and practice. We welcome participation by community members, activists, clergy, health professionals and advocates, advanced undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, faculty, staff, and researchers from various disciplines.

The RJWG will meet the following Thursdays from 2:00 – 4:00 PM: February 5, 19, 26, March 12 and 19, April 9 and 23, and May 7. Early sessions will focus on reading and discussing relevant materials. During later sessions, participants will present and receive feedback on RJ-related works-in-progress (e.g. op-ed, conference presentation, campaign or event work plan, dissertation prospectus, article draft). Optional activities that can enhance participants’ experience will be offered throughout the semester. The group will meet in a wheelchair-accessible location with free parking for people with disabilities.

SPACE IS LIMITED. Reply by January 30th. Deadline Extended.
