University of the Free State Senior Professor Jonathan Jansen, is one of South Africa’s leading intellectuals and has been at the center of post-Apartheid effort to transform its education system. He is President of the South African Institute of Race Relations and President of the South African Academy of Science, as well as a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. In 2013, he was awarded the Spendlove Award from the University of California for his contributions to tolerance, democracy and human rights. His book Knowledge in the Blood: Confronting Race and the Apartheid Past (Stanford, 2009) won the Nayef Al Rodhan Prize of the British Academy for the Social Science and Humanities, for its contribution to scholarly excellence and transcultural understanding. His recent books include Leading for Change(2016), As by fire: the end of the South African university (2017), Interracial intimacies (2017) and Song for Sarah (2017).
