CRG Distinguished Guest Lecture

The Center for Race and Gender hosts an annual distinguished guest lecture that highlights innovative scholarship on race, gender, and their intersection. Past lecturers include: Arundhai Roy, Angela Y. Davis, Gina Dent, Margaret Noodin, Renisa Mawani, María Josefina Saldaña-Portillo, Alicia Schmidt Camacho, J. Kēhaulani Kauanui, Sharon P. Holland, Roderick A. Ferguson, Chandan Reddy, Nadine Naber, Linda Martín Alcoff, Robin D. G. Kelley, and Cynthia Enloe.


CRG Forum Series

Since 2002, the Center for Race and Gender has hosted the CRG Forum Series (formerly Thursday Forums) featuring presentations from faculty, fellows, and students on emerging research on race, gender, and their intersections.


Radical Kinship Series

Since 2020, CRG’s Arts & Humanities Initiative has curated and hosted the Radical Kinship Series.  Radical Kinship Series brings together scholars and artists working in various media (visual arts, literature) into conversations to discuss how their art imagines decolonial futures in multiple contexts, including safety and anti-Asian violence, Black trans futures, African identity in Mexico, and abolition from indigenous, queer Black migrant, and trans perspectives.


Special Events & Symposia

The CRG also hosts and co-hosts special events, lectures, and symposia related to race and gender.  Past events have included: Hierarchies of ColorRacializing Sexual Economies: Sex Trade, Trafficking, And The Political Agency Of People Of Color & Indigenous People Symposia, Undocunation: An Evening with Artists for Immigrant Justice, Sana Sana:  Live Reading & Interview on Poetic Practice and Healing with Ariana Brown, Epidemic of Anti-Asian Violence: Connections and Resistance -- Helen Zia in conversation with Leti Volpp, and more. 


Co-sponsored Events

Additionally, over the years the CRG has co-sponsored numerous conferences, performances, and events spearheaded by other departments and institutions both on- and off-campus.
